Fluffy Miracle: A Rarely Seen Kitten Reclaims Her Fur with Dream Family

Kitten With Rare Condition Gets Her Fluff Back After She Finds Family of Her Dreams

A rare condition did not stop a little kitten from finding the loving family she had always dreamed of.

Elise Hall, a veterinarian hailing from Illinois, stumbled upon a unique kitten named Appa on a support page dedicated to animals with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a genetic condition that causes fragile skin.

“We joined the group because of our beloved cat Porg, who also had Ehlers Danlos,” Elise shared with Love Meow. Despite Porg’s passing last year, his legacy motivated Elise and her partner to assist other pet owners caring for animals with EDS. It wasn’t long before they came across Appa, a Selkirk Rex, and instantly fell in love with her.

Elise from the Instagram account @porg_and_appa_the_glass_kitten shared that there was an instant bond with Appa, much like the one they had with Porg. They were confident that they could offer her the necessary medical care and affection that every pet deserves. When they first met Appa, she quickly captured their hearts and seamlessly integrated into their family, making the encounter truly enchanting.

Elise from @porg_and_appa_the_glass_kitten shared that when the kitten first came home, she was found to have ringworm and a heart murmur. Without delay, they began her treatment to help her get better.
At just 3 months old, the kitten had already lost a lot of her fluffy fur, but she still sported a few patches on her lower back. To prevent her from scratching her healing skin, they fashioned a cute little scarf for her to wear around her neck.

Elise, who goes by the Instagram handle @porg_and_appa_the_glass_kitten, made sure to keep Appa’s nails well-trimmed and checked her skin daily. Occasionally, they would dress her in a protective outfit to avoid any more harm.
According to Elise, Appa has a milder form of Ehlers Danlos syndrome compared to Porg. However, she still has delicate, stretchy skin due to the rare genetic disorder affecting connective tissues.

Elise’s Instagram account, porg_and_appa_the_glass_kitten, documented the remarkable transformation of the kitten over the following months. Her injuries healed beautifully, and her once sparse fur now grew in thick and curly. Despite her past struggles, she lives each day free from worry, embracing life to the fullest.
